The Uncle Sam’s 3-Coin Register Bank (often called a money counter or toy cash register) is a classic, lever-operated mechanical bank. Originally manufactured by the Durable Toy & Novelty Co. (and later Western Stamping Co.), these vintage tin and metal toys have been a nostalgic staple since the 1900s.
How It Works
- Coin Slot: Accepts nickels, dimes, and quarters. There is also a slot in the back for dollar bills and pennies.
- The Lever: When you deposit a coin and pull the lever, it displays the total accumulated amount in the small front windows.
- The Lockbox: The bank is designed to force savings; it locks securely and will only pop the drawer open once you hit exactly $5, at which point the display resets to zeros.
