ALL SALES FINAL, WITH LOVE

Many of our pieces are one-of-a-kind, previously loved, handmade, or sourced from afar. This means natural wear, patina, variations, and imperfections are part of their story and part of what makes them special.

That said, we truly want you to feel confident and happy with your purchase.

Before You Buy

We encourage you to:

  • Ask questions
  • Take your time
  • Inspect items closely
  • Ask for measurements, care notes, or our best knowledge of an item’s history or condition

We’re always happy to help you make an informed decision.

After the Fact

If something doesn’t feel right once you get home, please come talk to us. While we don’t accept returns or offer refunds, we value our customers and our community, and we believe in fair, respectful conversations. If there’s a genuine issue, we want to know about it.

Why We Don’t Accept Returns (if you really want to know)

We are a small, independently owned vintage and import shop, and our return policy reflects both the nature of our goods and the realities of operating a boutique in the North.

Unlike large retailers, we carry a limited, carefully curated inventory. Many of our pieces are one of a kind. When an item leaves the shop even temporarily, it removes our ability to sell it to another interested buyer. In a small market like ours, that lost opportunity matters. If an item is later returned, we may have already missed the one buyer who was meant for it.

Our shop is also designed as a deliberate, cohesive experience. Each piece contributes to the overall look, flow, and feel of the space. When items are removed, even briefly, it disrupts that balance and can diminish the presentation of the remaining collection. In larger markets this impact can be absorbed more easily; in the North, with a significantly smaller audience, the effect is amplified.

From a financial perspective, small businesses operate on much thinner margins. Processing returns requires time, labour, inspection, restocking, and often re-merchandising. In some cases, returned items cannot be resold at full value or at all. We have experienced situations where items were returned after use, resulting in a complete loss. This is not sustainable for us.

There are also hygiene and quality control considerations. Certain items cannot responsibly be taken back once they’ve left the shop. Exposure to allergens, wear, or unfavourable conditions makes resale inappropriate and unfair to future customers.

Some of our goods are seasonal or trend-sensitive, and timing matters. Even a short removal from the sales floor can mean an item no longer aligns with the season or demand, forcing us to carry it for another year or sell it at a loss.

Finally and perhaps most importantly, our policy is designed to encourage thoughtful, intentional purchasing. A final sale model asks shoppers to slow down, ask questions, inspect items, and choose pieces they truly love. This aligns naturally with our mercantile business where character, history, and uniqueness are part of the value.

A Note on Shopping Culture

In the early half of the 1900s, shoppers made careful, intentional purchases because returning items was rarely an option. People valued quality over quantity and expected to keep what they bought. Today, however, the rise of big-box retailers and e-commerce giants like Amazon has created a buy, use, and exchange culture, where free shipping and easy returns have made shopping feel risk-free. While this may work for large corporations with vast supply chains, but it is not sustainable for small, curated shops like ours, where every item and every sale matters.

Our final sale policy helps us protect our inventory, preserve the integrity of our space, and continue offering a thoughtful, high-quality selection. Quite simply...it helps us stay in business.

Our store policy has always been posted at the payment terminal, on receipts and also here on our website. If you ever have questions, please contact us.
